As you have likely seen from my website already, my name is Devin and I am a Visual Effects Artist who specializes in Particle Effects. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Game Design from Full Sail University in 2018. My love for games started in the first grade when I first played Super Mario Bros. 3 and Halo. Since first picking up a controller back in 2004 almost all of my free time has been filled with videogames in one way or another, be it playing them, watching them, or making them.
In and out of gaming I have a serious love for art, math, science, science-fiction, and obviously games themselves, and this is what drew me to visual effects in the first place. I have always been fascinated by the world around me and things that I don’t yet know. Learning new things and striving to be better at what I already know is a big part of who I am, and after learning about the field of VFX I saw it was a place where all of my interests came together. This field really is a passion of mine, and when I am not working on an effect for a game I will often work on my own projects for fun or to learn something new that I didn’t fully understand before. Studying this field gives me a new way of seeing games and life around me, which gives me constant inspiration to do more.
In my personal life I spend much of my free time revolving around games as mentioned previously, but I also find enjoyment in many of my other hobbies. I like to spend my time making things/3D Printing, doing electronics repair, cooking, studying science and math, practicing art and music, skateboarding, theatre work/sound design, and practicing parkour/free running among other things. I really love trying to learn all I can about things that pique my interest, so the list is ever growing.
Because of my love of learning, I spend a lot of time expanding my abilities by learning new programs and practices from the industry. Some of the new software I am learning now includes Substance suite, Houdini, and Popcorn FX.
